Jackson, Michigan, USA – WEBWIRE – Tuesday, October 24, 2023

Today, Sesame Solar, the company creating global, climate-resilience solutions, has been named to TIME’s annual list of the Best Inventions, which features 200 extraordinary innovations changing our lives.

To compile the list, TIME solicited nominations from its editors and correspondents around the world, and through an online application process, paid special attention to growing fields—such as AI, green energy, and sustainability. Winners are selected based on key characteristics including originality, efficacy, ambition, and impact.

“Being recognized by TIME as one of the Best Inventions of 2023 alongside other ingenious companies is an honor, and this award underscores our dedication to pushing boundaries in the climate-resilience sector. Our Mobile Nanogrid is not just an invention but a commitment to safeguarding communities during their most vulnerable times,” said Lauren Flanagan, CEO and co-founder of Sesame Solar.”

Sesame Solar is the maker of the world’s first 100% renewably powered Mobile Nanogrid for emissions-free disaster response and off-grid power. Powered by both solar and green hydrogen energy and battery storage, these Nanogrids start generating Clean Mobile Power in less than 15 minutes and can double as a mobile medical clinic, communications hub and more to power essential community functions after disaster strikes. Through the new integration of atmospheric water generators, the Nanogrids will now have unlimited clean drinking water and unlimited deionized water to power the green hydrogen fuel cells.

According to the NOAA, there have been 23 climate catastrophes and weather events costing at least $1 billion through the end of August. After climate disasters of this magnitude, the power grid is often impacted and communities go an average of 50 hours without power, which is a critical time for recovery. Current solutions rely on diesel generators that produce carbon and noxious emissions, further contributing to the climate change crisis.

Already trusted by some of the world’s leading organizations, Sesame Solar’s Nanogrids are currently relied on by Comcast, Cox Communications, the Ministry of Public Health for Dominica, The U.S. Air Force, and county emergency offices including Santa Barbara County and Imperial County. The Nanogrids have been deployed for recovery efforts during Hurricanes Ian in 2022, Ida in 2021, and Maria in 2017, as well as for wildfires in California, and tornadoes and floods across the U.S.

Of the new list, TIME’s editors write: “The result is a list of 200 groundbreaking inventions (and 50 special mention inventions)—including the world’s most powerful supercomputer, a game-changing entertainment venue, and a new shape—that are changing how we live, work, play, and think about what’s possible.”
