In the last five years, extreme weather events in the U.S. have cost $600 billion and resulted in over 1,700 deaths, often due to the use of unsafe fossil-fuel generators.

When I witnessed the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, my first thought was that I knew we could do better. That’s why I co-founded Sesame Solar in 2017 to challenge traditional disaster response methods. Since then, we’ve introduced the world’s first 100% renewably-powered Mobile Nanogrid, and our Solution is trusted by some of the world's leading organizations—Comcast, Cox, The U.S. Air Force and the Ministry for Public Health for Dominica.

Today, it’s an honor to see Sesame Solar listed as one of Fast Company's 50 Most Innovative Companies for 2023. This recognition is a testament to our mission-driven team who have been working tirelessly to decarbonize disaster response and off-grid power. We also want to applaud Fast Company for creating a new category honoring companies in Rapid Response, and I’m beyond proud to share that we are #1 on that list.

Our 100% renewably-powered Mobile Nanogids have made a significant impact on disaster response efforts. During Hurricanes Ida and Ian, our customer, Comcast Xfinity Communications, utilized our Nanogrids to power emergency services, device charging, and Wifi communications. We also provided large trailers of toilets, showers and laundry facilities that served approximately 300 first responders and residents each day. Our Nanogrids were also deployed for the Ministry of Public Health for Dominica after Hurricane Maria devastated the island. Additionally, Cox Communications used our Mobile Nanogrids to provide community power and mesh networks in parking lots for its business customers after wildfires and floods.

Looking forward to 2023, we’re laser-focused on connecting with more communities that are in need of renewable backup power and exploring new verticals that can benefit from our fast-to-deploy and easy-to-use Mobile Nanogrids that can be setup by one person in less than 15 minutes.

Sesame Solar is, and always will be, a purpose-driven company focused on People. Planet. Profits. Our People—the Sesame Solar team, customers, partners and investors—are our most valuable asset. We are protecting the Planet by decarbonizing disaster response and off-grid power, and Profitable operations allow us to continue to innovate.

The Fast Company Most Innovative Companies list recognizes companies that are making a positive impact on the world by pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, and we're excited to be part of this prestigious group.

We know that there's still a long way to go when it comes to becoming more climate resilient, but we're committed to further developing our Mobile Nanogrid Solutions to make renewable solutions the easy choice. Thank you to Fast Company for this incredible recognition, and thank you to our talented team for building Sesame Solar into what it is today.
