Sesame Solar, the company creating global climate-resilience solutions, is entering a new market in the Philippines through a partnership with One Commerce. The agreement allows One Commerce to sell Sesame Solar’s Nanogrids in the region as a means for off-grid, renewable energy to decarbonize mobile power used for telecommunications, military operations, disaster response and more.

In the global fight against climate change, the Island Nations are directly in the line of fire. The Philippines is among the most vulnerable areas to disastrous weather events due to its exposure to rising sea levels, tropical cyclones, monsoons, floods, landslides, increasing temperatures and dry spells. The country is also in the top 25% for carbon emissions among low- and middle-income countries and, with projected increases in the coming years, the region has a growing need for emissions-free solutions for power and connectivity outages.

“Our expansion in the Philippines is an extremely important step in our mission to provide emissions-free mobile power for island nations across the globe,” said Lauren Flanagan, CEO and co-founder of Sesame Solar. “By partnering with One Commerce, we’ll be able to reach organizations who are currently relying on diesel generators and help them embrace a fossil-fuel-free solution to respond to the increasing frequency and severity of weather disasters and their needs for off-grid power.”

Sesame Solar is the maker of the world’s first renewably-powered Mobile Nanogrid that’s fast to deploy, easy to use, and flexible for dozens of uses including disaster response, powering telecommunications, mobile medical clinics, clean water generation and more. Powered by solar and green hydrogen energy, these Nanogrids start generating Clean Mobile Power in less than 15 minutes and are easily transported to bring clean power and essential services wherever it’s needed.

“We’re sadly seeing the impacts of climate change first-hand in the Philippines. We know our customers are facing a growing need to respond to extreme weather and power outages and we’re proud to work with Sesame Solar to offer a solution that is both efficient and more sustainable for the region,” said Abbey Ng, CEO of One Commerce.

One Commerce is one of the largest systems integrators in the Philippines, providing turnkey end-to-end solutions and providing hardware and software technologies to organizations that span government, telecommunications, enterprises and more. This partnership will support the Philippines’ accelerated climate change agenda to increase climate and disaster risk resilience for communities and corporations, enhance ecosystem resilience in the region, and enable a low-carbon economy in the coming years.

“The ability to quickly access power for services like emergency communications, medical care and clean water will be such a vital asset for businesses in this region, especially after a disaster impacts local infrastructure. The fact that it is fossil-fuel-free is even better and a direction we need to move in,” said Joel Nuesca, CTO of One Commerce.

Once impacted by a natural disaster or mass power outage, it is extremely difficult to bring emergency services to impacted communities in a timely manner. With Sesame Solar Nanogrids self-generating clean energy, first responders and communities don’t have to rely on existing infrastructure that’s often heavily impacted.

“The issues that the Philippines are facing are the exact reason that we brought Sesame Solar to life. These communities demand a better solution than diesel generators,” shared Namit Jhanwar, COO and co-founder of Sesame Solar. “The services that we can bring embedded in our Nanogrid are critical and many times life-saving after a disaster, and we’re proving that rapid response does not require fossil fuels.”
