Sesame Solar Announces Ukraine Commitment at the 2023 Clinton Global Initiative

By: Lauren Flanagan

This week, I attended the 2023 Clinton Global Initiative in New York City. Founded by President Bill Clinton, the Clinton Global Initiative is a community of doers dedicated to the idea that we can accomplish more together than we can apart. At the event, 140+ companies and nonprofits declared their commitments to efforts in climate resilience, health equity and inclusive economic recovery and growth.

I'm thrilled to announce that my team at Sesame Solar has stepped forward with a commitment to donate four Mobile Nanogrids to Ukraine to provide off-grid, renewable energy for neonatal services and disaster response.

Energy remains at the top of the list of Ukraine’s needs. The country has an alarming $11 billion funding gap for critical economic and capital expenditures with energy accounting for 11% of these costs. This shortage has dire consequences, impacting essential services, economic growth, and disaster preparedness.

This is where our Mobile Nanogrids can step in.

Powered by both solar, green hydrogen energy and battery storage, our Nanogrids start generating off-grid, Clean Mobile Power in <15 minutes. Each one is the size of a shipping container for easy transport to hard-to-reach areas.

In Ukraine, three of the four Nanogrids will be customized to provide mobile power which can be used for disaster response, power outages, communications centers and more. The final Nanogrid will be designed as a mobile neonatal medical clinic, as the ongoing conflict in Ukraine has created a challenging environment for expectant mothers and healthcare providers. Thanks to our new partnership with Watergen to install air-to-water generation technology in our Mobile Nanogrid, each unit sent to Ukraine will also have the ability to produce clean drinking water.

Our Nanogrids have previously been deployed in Dominica, powering a mobile medical clinic in a remote area for over three years. Additionally, following Hurricane Ian, Nanogrids were employed by Comcast in Fort Myers, Florida, to provide power for Crisis Response Centers, serving essential needs for more than 300 residents and first responders daily. We know that our solution will provide essential support in Ukraine as we’ve done in these other regions.
