Lauren Flanagan Awarded to the 2024 Grist 50 List: Driving Fresh Solutions to Our Planet’s Biggest Problems
Grist announced its 2024 Grist 50 list, a group of 50 climate leaders driving fresh solutions to our planet’s biggest problems. Sesame Solar is proud to announce that our CEO and Co-founder, Lauren Flanagan, was included on this prestigious list for her dedication to creating long-term clean mobile power solutions for climate-resilient communities.
The Grist 50 is an annual list of exceptional leaders from across the U.S. who are climate change makers. Or, as Grist calls them, Fixers. From scientists to artists to clean energy enthusiasts, their work shows a passion and dedication to championing better alternatives to help our planet thrive.
Lauren Flanagan is a true climate change maker—motivated by her determination to create long-term solutions that create climate-resilient communities and businesses that are also good for the planet. Since Lauren launched Sesame Solar in 2017, thousands have benefitted from Sesame’s Clean Mobile Power and patented technology. Using solar, battery storage and green hydrogen for backup power, Sesame’s Mobile Nanogrids can be quickly deployed to provide power, clean water and communications to communities impacted by disaster and to help ensure climate resiliency to further extreme weather events. Setup by 1 person in <15 minutes and a sustainable alternative to fossil fuel generators, Sesame’s Nanogrids can be used to power mobile offices, medical hubs, communication hubs, clean water stations, EV charging, cooling/warming centers, events and more.
As Lauren says, “In 2023, among Earth’s warmest on record, the U.S. experienced a record-breaking 28 weather disasters, costing $92.9 billion and, according to NOAA, extreme weather will continue to increase each year due to climate change. Our utility grid is also becoming older and more fragile, creating an urgent demand for off-grid power options that are reliable, renewable and mobile to make a difference now, especially for economic justice communities more impacted by extreme weather.”
